Dermal fillers are a naturally-derived or synthetic material that is directly injected into skin with the purpose of plumping that area to the point where the wrinkle, depression, or fold is reduced or gone. Dermal fillers can also be used to plump up lips, elongate your chin and give you a higher nose bridge. Depending on the type of filler, the effects can last anywhere from six months to two years. Here in The Life Clinic, we only use dermal filler that are not permanent and completely absorbable.
Naturally-derived fillers (the most widely known is hyaluronic acid) have a much smaller risk of causing an allergic reaction but reactions can occur. Results are immediate and will last from 6 to 18 months (occasionally up to two years) because the filler eventually breaks down. Once the filler starts to dissipate, you need to go back in and get more filler injected to maintain results. Most people who get fillers will need at least one follow-up injection within a year.
The procedure only take 30-60minutes, depending on the area to be treated. You may develop some swelling and bruising after the procedure which will settle in a few days. However, you will be able to return to work immediately afterwards.
And don’t forget, as with any cosmetic corrective procedure, you still need to use well-formulated skincare products and sun protection (even when it’s cloudy) as part of the anti-aging package that will keep your skin looking younger and healthier for a very long time!
